Sixteen-year-old James Watson is halfway through his "sentence" at a reformatory boys' school when he is summoned to the Principal's office. He is hopeful his sentence is to be reduced, given his model behavior; but after he arrives for his appointment, his concerns increase that he will be caned by the Principal. How could she know his one indiscretion?
